Lake Texoma offers some of the best striped bass fishing in the entire country. Natural reproduction maintains a strong year-round striped bass fishery on this lake. Many lakes that have striped bass must rely on stocking efforts, but on Lake Texoma, they naturally reproduce, which allows for some fantastic fishing and liberal regulations. There are plenty of fishing guides available and this is one of the very few lakes that you can limit out consistently in a couple of hours or less with the right guide. The other species of fish that round out the fishery are largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, spotted bass, catfish and crappie. It’s truly an amazing fishing lake with so many options.
Lake Texoma is a Huge Lake
Lake Texoma is a massive lake. It can be overwhelming for new anglers since there are so many spots that look great for fishing. Once you figure out the patterns for the time of year you are fishing, the size of the lake will actually give you a better chance to catch good numbers of fish. We recommend coming here with a boat that can move a little bit and good electronics will definitely help you find more fish.
Fish the Bridges
There are some good-sized bridges on the lake. If you are launching your boat near some of these bridges, you may be able to find a variety of fish in these spots. Some of the deeper water around these bridges will hold quality fish from summer through fall. Anglers can target striped bass, largemouth bass, spotted bass, smallmouth bass, white bass, crappie and catfish around the bridge pilings.
Fish the Coves
There are a good number of smaller coves throughout the lake. The spring is usually best for hitting these coves, however, schools of shad can easily push into these coves off the main lake, so don’t rule them out in the summer and fall for a variety of bass and other fish too.
Fish the Creek Arms
The larger creek arms are very popular for the spring spawning runs for a variety of different fish on Lake Texoma. Fish the rocks and wood throughout these creek arms in the spring and you’ll find plenty of fish. In the summer and fall, a lot of fish will be out on the main lake, but don’t rule out the creek arms that offer some deeper water since they will hold fish too.
Fish the Docks
While there are plenty of docks to fish on Lake Texoma, there are also plenty of creek arms where you won’t find hardly any at all. If you’re planning to fish the docks as your main pattern, make sure you launch your boat in the areas with more docks or bring a boat that can make long runs quickly. The docks are great for a variety of bass and crappie in the spring. In the summer and fall, the deeper docks will still hold some fish too.
Fish the Islands
There are some good islands to fish on the lake. In the summer and fall, good numbers of fish like to go offshore and the islands are good spots to stop when heading offshore. Fish the deeper water near these islands in the summer and fall and you’ll find a variety of fish.
Fish the Main Lake
The main lake is huge and it can be exhausting to find the better spots to fish. In the summer and fall, lots of fish go offshore to hang out in deeper water. Having a boat that can make long runs with good electronics is key to being able to run and gun to find fish deeper.
