Welcome to our Lake Powell Home Page

The Colorado River impounded behind Glen Canyon Dam near Page, Arizona forms Lake Powell.  This lake is over 570 feet deep when filled to capacity.  Part of Lake Powell is in Arizona and the bigger portion of the lake is in Utah.  Since Lake Powell occupies two states, make sure you know the fishing regulations of the state that you are going to be fishing.  Lake Powell is known as a popular houseboating destination.

Primary Species of Fish

Striped Bass, Smallmouth Bass, Largemouth Bass

Anglers target a variety of different species here, although, striped bass are king on this lake.  This lake is a great numbers lake for striped bass and some big stripers are here too. If you’re looking for action, it’s a great lake to fish.  Largemouth bass are present in good numbers on Lake Powell.  Anglers can expect to catch some striped bass while fishing for largemouth bass.  Expect to find plenty of largemouth bass in deeper water though because this lake is so deep.  Fish the shoreline cover and structure and you’ll find some largemouth bass here.  Lake Powell has good numbers of smallmouth bass with some big fish mixed in too.  The deep water is a good fit for smallmouth bass.  Fish the rocky shorelines and drop-offs and you’ll find plenty of smallies in this lake.

Secondary Species of Fish

Walleye, Catfish, Crappie, Bluegill

Walleye are available here in catchable numbers.  Working the bottom in 25 to 35 feet of water will usually be key to catching walleye.  The nice thing about walleye fishing on Lake Powell is that you’ll usually catch some other types of fish while targeting them.  Catfish are available in Lake Powell.  They aren’t targeted by most anglers, but they are here in catchable numbers if you want to fish for them.  Some big channel catfish are in the lake so don’t be surprised if you run into some fish that weigh into the double digits.  The lake record is over 20 pounds.  Crappie, bluegill and other types of sunfish are available in Lake Powell.  For anglers that target these panfish, they can find some good fishing here with some bigger, cleanable fish available too.

Lake Powell Arizona

Wahweap Marina and Antelope Marina are popular spots to start a Lake Powell adventure from.  These are both located in Arizona and neither are far from Page, which is the only town located near the lake in Arizona.  Page, Arizona is a popular town for people seeking a little adventure.  There are a lot of lodging accommodations, restaurants and shopping options, so you can enjoy the lake, but still have all the modern conveniences of home.

Lake Powell Utah

In Utah, there aren’t any towns like Page, AZ near this lake, so if you’re looking for lots of modern conveniences, you may want to head to Page, Arizona for your stay.  If you are looking to visit Lake Powell in Utah, there are marinas in Bullfrog and Halls Crossing, Utah to get you on the water.

Fish the Bays

There are some large bays that really fish more like smaller lakes within a large water system and there are some smaller bays available to fish too.  You will find everything that swims in the lake in these bays, so pick a shoreline that looks good and start fishing.

Fish the Drop-offs

Lake Powell is a very deep lake, so plan on fishing lots of drop-offs pretty much everywhere on the lake.  You are going to find a lot of fish along these drop-offs close to shorelines, however, fish will often suspend further out from the shorelines, but not too far from these drop-offs.  You can visibly see a lot of these spots, but having good electronics will definitely help you figure out which drop-offs are going to be holding bigger schools of fish.

Fish the Ledges

There are a ton of ledges to fish throughout the lake.  Fish love hanging out these ledges close to the shorelines.  Target bass and other species of fish as they suspend near these ledges.

Fish the Points

You can easily run and gun and hit a bunch of points until you find the fish.  There are so many points on the lake and many of these points are going to be very good spots for holding a variety of fish all season long.

Fish the Rocks

You’re going to be fishing lots of rocks on Lake Powell.  The lake is loaded with rock and the fish relate to rocks all over the lake.

Fish for Suspended Fish

Because Lake Powell has so much deep water and so many drop-offs near the shorelines, you are going to find a lot of fish that suspend in deeper water here.  Use your electronics to help you find these suspended fish and have a rod or two set up for targeting suspended fish and you’ll catch a lot more fish.
