Catfish

Lake Okeechobee is also home to crappie, bluegill and redear sunfish (shellcracker).  Many anglers do target them on the lake here, although, most anglers come here for the excellent bass fishing.  The winter and spring usually provides some of the best fishing opportunities for crappie, bluegill and redear, but you can definitely catch them year round here.  Catfish are also available here, but most anglers don’t target them.
