Smallmouth Bass


Iron County, Wisconsin is home to some excellent smallmouth bass fishing.  If you are looking for action, there are so many good lakes to fish here where you can catch a lot of smallmouth bass.  If you’re looking for bigger smallmouth bass, the Turtle Flambeau Flowage is tough to beat.  The average size smallmouth bass on the flowage is solid and there are lots of them.


Cedar Lake


Cedar Lake is a 187 acre lake located in Iron County.  It has a maximum depth of 21 feet. Visitors have access to the lake from a public boat landing.  Fish include muskie, walleye, northern pike, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass and panfish.  According to the Wisconsin DNR, muskie, walleye, northern pike and panfish are common in this lake.  Largemouth bass and smallmouth bass are listed as present.



Echo Lake


Echo Lake is a 205 acre lake located in Iron County.  It has a maximum depth of 25 feet. Visitors have access to the lake from a public boat landing.  Fish include muskie, walleye, northern pike, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass and panfish.  According to the Wisconsin DNR, muskie and walleye are common in this lake.  Northern pike, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass and panfish are listed as present.



Fisher Lake


Fisher Lake is a 441 acre lake located in Iron County.  It has a maximum depth of 21 feet. Visitors have access to the lake from a public boat landing.  Fish include muskie, walleye, northern pike, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass and panfish.  According to the Wisconsin DNR, muskie, northern pike, walleye, largemouth bass and panfish are common in this lake.  Smallmouth bass are listed as present.



Gile Flowage


The Gile Flowage is a larger lake that covers 3,138 acres.  It has a maximum depth of 25 feet. Visitors have access to the lake from public boat landings.  Fish include muskie, walleye, northern pike, smallmouth bass and panfish.  According to the Wisconsin DNR, walleye are considered abundant while the other species of fish listed are common in the lake.



Grand Portage Lake


Grand Portage Lake is a 148 acre lake located in Iron County.  It has a maximum depth of 33 feet.  Visitors have access to the lake from a public boat landing.  Fish include muskie, walleye, northern pike, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass and panfish.  According to the Wisconsin DNR, muskie, walleye, northern pike, largemouth bass and panfish are common in this lake.  Smallmouth bass are listed as present.



Island Lake


Island Lake is a 344 acre lake located in Iron County. It has a maximum depth of 17 feet. Visitors have access to the lake from a public boat landing.  Fish include muskie, panfish, smallmouth bass, northern pike and walleye.  According to the DNR, muskie, northern pike and walleye are considered common in the lake.



Lake of the Falls


Lake of the Falls is a 297 acre lake located in Iron County. It has a maximum depth of 23 feet.  Fish include muskie, panfish, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, northern pike and walleye.  According to the DNR, muskie, walleye, northern pike and panfish are considered common in the lake.



Long Lake


Long Lake is a 370 acre lake located in Iron County.  It has a maximum depth of 34 feet. Fish include muskie, walleye, northern pike, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass and panfish.  According to the Wisconsin DNR, muskie, walleye and northern pike are common in this lake.  Largemouth bass, smallmouth bass and panfish are listed as present.



Martha Lake


Martha Lake is a 146 acre lake located in Iron County.  It has a maximum depth of 55 feet. Fish include muskie, walleye, northern pike, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass and panfish.  According to the Wisconsin DNR, muskie, largemouth bass and panfish are common in this lake.



Mercer Lake


Mercer Lake is a 181 acre lake located in Iron County.  It has a maximum depth of 24 feet. Visitors have access to the lake from a public boat landing.  Fish include muskie, walleye, northern pike, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, sturgeon and panfish.  According to the Wisconsin DNR, muskie, walleye, northern pike, largemouth bass and panfish are common in this lake.  Smallmouth bass and sturgeon are listed as present.



Pardee Lake


Pardee Lake is a 207 acre lake located in Iron, Vilas Counties. It has a maximum depth of 27 feet.  Fish include muskie, panfish, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass and walleye.  According to the DNR, largemouth bass and walleye are common in the lake.



Pike Lake


Pike Lake is a 214 acre lake located in Iron County.  It has a maximum depth of 80 feet. Fish include muskie, walleye, northern pike, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass and panfish.  According to the Wisconsin DNR, muskie, northern pike and walleye are common in this lake.  Largemouth bass, smallmouth bass and panfish are listed as present.



Pine Lake


Pine Lake is a 300 acre lake located in Iron County.  It has a maximum depth of 41 feet. Fish include muskie, walleye, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass and panfish.  According to the Wisconsin DNR, walleye are abundant in this lake.  Muskie are considered common in the lake.  Largemouth bass, smallmouth bass and panfish are listed as present.



Spider Lake


Spider Lake is a 359 acre lake located in Iron County.  It has a maximum depth of 49 feet. Fish include muskie, walleye, northern pike, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass and panfish.  According to the Wisconsin DNR, muskie, walleye and northern pike are common in this lake.  Largemouth bass, smallmouth bass and panfish are listed as present.  The lake’s water is moderately clear.



Trude Lake


Trude Lake is a 786 acre lake located in Iron County. It has a maximum depth of 48 feet. Visitors have access to the lake from a public boat landing.  Fish include muskie, panfish, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, northern pike and walleye.The lake’s water clarity is very clear.  According to the DNR, northern pike and walleye are abundant.  Muskie, smallmouth bass and panfish are considered common.



Turtle Flambeau Flowage


The Turtle Flambeau Flowage is located in Iron County Wisconsin, near the towns of Mercer and Butternut.  The Flowage consists of nine lakes, three rivers and several creeks.  The flowage offers some beautiful surroundings and plenty of water for the outdoor enthusiasts.  Boating and fishing are very popular on the flowage.  Water skiing and jet skiing are permitted in some areas, but very limited, which makes it nice for the fisherman looking to find some peaceful surroundings.   The Flowage supports a diversity of fish species including walleye, muskie, northern pike, smallmouth and largemouth bass, sturgeon, and a variety of panfish. The roaring rapids of the Flambeau River offer a more adventurous angling experience, however, there are calm area streams for the trout fishermen.
