Welcome to our Hackensack, MN Fishing Home Page

Hackensack, Minnesota is located just south of Leech Lake.  Whether you choose to fish Leech Lake or fish one of the many productive lakes in the Hackensack area, you will have plenty of options with all of the great fishing up here.  There are plenty of nice lakes to get out and do some boating without the crowds that you will find in many of the popular tourist destinations in Minnesota.  While this area may be away from the crowds, there are several fishing resorts in this area to accommodate you.

Some anglers stay on some of the lakes in the Hackensack area even though they may spend a day or 2 fishing on Leech Lake. The smaller lakes give anglers the ability to fish on windy days, while Leech Lake may be too rough for some boats when the wind picks up.  Anglers target muskie, northern pike, walleye, smallmouth bass, largemouth bass and panfish in the area lakes.

Primary Species of Fish

Largemouth Bass, Northern Pike & Walleye

The primary species of fish in this area are walleye, northern pike and largemouth bass.  Most anglers don’t come here to fish for largemouth bass, but many of the smaller lakes have some very good fishing for largemouth bass.  Walleye can be hit or miss and the northern pike seem to almost always be willing to cooperate.

Secondary Species of Fish

Smallmouth Bass, Muskie, Perch, Crappie & Bluegill

There are many lakes in the area and some of them give you some different options here.  Just because smallmouth bass and muskie are secondary here does not mean that you can’t find some lakes in this area where the fishing is very good for both species of fish.  Panfish are available throughout all of the lakes.  Some lakes are better than others for certain species of fish.
