Georgetown is the 3rd oldest city in South Carolina and it is located on Winyah Bay at the confluence of the Great Pee Dee River, Waccamaw River, and Sampit River. This city is also the 2nd largest seaport in South Carolina.
The area provides some excellent fishing and you don’t have to battle the big waves of the ocean to catch fish around Georgetown, South Carolina. You can target fish in protected areas behind barrier islands, and in the many creeks, rivers and bays. The inshore waters provide some excellent fishing for redfish, flounder, black drum, sheepshead, speckled trout, Spanish mackerel, king mackerel, cobia, spadefish, jack crevalle, tarpon and more. Offshore fishing charters are also available if you would like to catch marlin, sailfish, dolphin, wahoo, tuna and others.

Georgetown, SC Inshore Fishing
Georgetown is a very good inshore fishing destination. You don’t have to go offshore to find excellent fishing here. Depending on the season, you may catch redfish, flounder, black drum, sheepshead, speckled trout, Spanish mackerel, king mackerel, cobia, spadefish, jack crevalle, tarpon and more. Most anglers target redfish and trout in this area, but there are so many species of fish to catch here.

Georgetown, SC Nearshore Fishing
Nearshore, you’re going to experience similar fishing as you would near Myrtle Beach. You have less crowds on the beaches closer to Georgetown though. The inshore and offshore fishing will get most of the attention from anglers with a boat here, but there are times when fish are running the beaches in large numbers and you can find some boats chasing them. The type of fish can vary depending on the season, but some fish you may target nearshore are kingfish, cobia, sharks, Spanish Mackerel, tarpon and others.
Georgetown, SC Deep Sea / Offshore Fishing
You have quick access to some excellent offshore fishing in the Georgetown area. You have much smaller crowds here than farther north in Myrtle Beach, but there are still plenty of fishing charters here to service you for an offshore trip.
The target species will vary depending on the seasons, however, plan on fishing the hard, rocky bottom or wrecks for bottom fish such as grouper, snapper, cobia, king mackerel, permit, amberjack and more. Some other fish that are targeted offshore are barracuda, bonito, sharks and others. Offshore trolling is also done in this area, especially for king mackerel.

Georgetown, SC Shore Fishing
There are piers in the area and there are beaches in the area too. Fish from the beaches in the area for a variety of different fish. The popular beaches found here are at Hunting Beach State Park, the Litchfield Beaches, Pawleys Island and Garden City. Some of the fish you may catch are whiting, redfish, trout, flounder, cobia, tarpon, shark, jack crevalle and others depending on how far out you are fishing and the time of the year. The piers will give you access to some deeper water, which gives you more options for catching bigger fish.
