For the anglers that like to fish from a pier, the Venice Fishing Pier is a great one to fish. You may catch a variety of different fish off the pier, but some of the more popular fish that anglers target here are snook, mangrove snapper, sheepshead, flounder, pompano, cobia, tarpon, sharks, kingfish, spanish mackerel, whiting, pompano and others.
Anglers can also surf fishing along the beaches of Venice. This part of Florida is not nearly as crowded as some of the popular beach destinations, so you should be able to find a place to fish the surf here. You can expect to find some of the usual southwest Florida fish along the beaches here such as whiting, pompano, spanish mackerel, snook, sharks and others.
The jetties at Venice Inlet will also give anglers the opportunity to catch some nice fish without needing a boat. Many different types of fish will come through the inlet as they move back and forth from the Gulf to the inshore waters of Venice. You may run into any of the fish that were listed above while fishing the inlet. Make sure to fish the tidal changes in the inlet. The moving water is key for most species of fish to go on the feed.

Moving water is key for most species of fish and the slack tide usually provides the worst fishing conditions for most fish.

Some of the popular fish to catch nearshore are grouper, snapper, kingfish, cobia, permit, snook and goliath grouper. These are just some of the most common species of fish that you can catch. The time of year will dictate what fish will be more prevalent, but you can catch fish nearshore year-round in this area. There are fishing charters available that fish the nearshore waters of Venice.

There are some deep sea fishing charters that operate out of this area and some of the popular species of fish that they will target are grouper, snapper, cobia, king mackerel, permit, amberjack and goliath grouper. Some other fish that are targeted offshore are barracuda, bonito, sharks and others. The type of fish you will catch will vary depending on the seasons, but if you have good weather and fish the right spots, you should be able to do very well here offshore.
