Cape San Blas is located between St. Joseph Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. You won’t find tons of fancy resorts and hotels here, but you will find plenty of vacation rental homes and condos on or near the beach. This area does draw many tourists because of the vacation home rentals on the beaches, the miles of white sand beaches, and of course, the pet-friendly beaches. The St. Joseph Peninsula State Park was ranked as America’s #1 Beach in 2002 according to www.drbeach.org.
Port St. Joe is located about 36 miles southeast of Panama City. There are plenty of beaches to enjoy on nearby Cape San Blas or in nearby Mexico Beach. Port St. Joe is a small town with a few small shops, but there is a very nice marina and an excellent bait shop called Blue Water Outriggers that can help you get what you need to catch plenty of fish. Anglers can rent boats, launch their own boat from the marina, rent charters or just fish from shore around the marina or off the nearby beaches. Most of your lodging options are going to be in nearby Cape San Blas.
The Cape San Blas area is home to some very good fishing and it is very uncrowded which means you will have lots of great fishing spots all to yourself. Many anglers fish the shallower waters in St. Joseph Bay for trout, redfish, flounder and more. Nearshore and offshore fishing is also available here. It’s a very good fishing destination.
