Minnow-shaped crankbaits are long and lean compared to their shorter and fatter counterparts.  These lures resemble the longer bait fish that are eaten by big bass, walleye, northern pike, salmon and trout.  These crankbaits have an excellent wobbling action and most do have rattles built inside which adds to their appeal.

Tackle Recommendations

Rod, Reel & Line

Minnow-Shaped Crankbaits are used mostly on baitcasters but you can break out your spinning gear too for them.  Most minnow baits are decent sized to large, so most of the time, you’re going to be using heavier tackle while fishing with these baits.  Medium-heavy to heavy action rods with line from 10 to 30 pound test is the range that most anglers would be using when fishing with these lures.
