Fishing the Whitefish Chain in the Spring

This chain has a lot of water in it and the clear, deep waters on some of these lakes will take longer to warm up than some of the area lakes that have murky water and shallower water.  These lakes may take a little bit to warm up, but once they do, the fishing can be flat out awesome early in the year.  The spring and early summer bite here is very good.  It’s an awesome place to catch a lot of fish and this is the best time of the year for action.  You will catch some quality fish here too if you put the time in.

The summer provides some very good fishing here too.  You will still find plenty of largemouth bass around the weeds and docks and you won’t have to fish super deep to catch fish.  Plenty of fish will go deeper though, so you can find lots of fish on the deeper weed edges and offshore structure.  The walleye bite usually is much better during low light conditions so get out early or fish late for better fishing.

The fall brings plenty of fish in the shallows as well as deep.  Focus on the weeds until it gets later in the fall.  You can catch a lot of fish just focusing on the deep weed edges, but don’t rule out the other offshore structure here too.  Fish shallow or deep.  There are plenty of places to catch bass, walleye, pike and panfish on the chain.


Fishing the Whitefish Chain in the Winter (Ice Fishing)

Ice fishing can be solid here through the winter.  Anglers enjoy fishing for panfish, walleye and pike.  Largemouth bass are tough to catch through the ice, so you have to rely on the other species of fish for the winter action here.
