The deeper shorelines are key for just about everything.  While you may have to fish the open water reefs to find good numbers of quality fish at times on Rainy Lake, there are plenty of shorelines that offer fast access to deep water and these are great spots to target smallmouth bass, northern pike and walleye.  These spots can be on the main lake or in the bays.  In many of the bays, there will be one part of the shoreline that has a steeper drop-off than the others.  This is usually a good place to start.  All the bays are not made equal, however, many of them offer some very good spots with a deep drop-off along the shoreline.
