Fishing the Temagami Area in the Spring

Month Avg. Air Temps °F (Hi/Lo)
March 32° / 8°
April 47° / 25°
May 63° / 38°

In the spring, water temperatures are still pretty cold this far up north.  The lake trout, pike and walleye will be feeding fairly shallow when the walleye opener arrives.  The smaller lakes will warm up faster, so don’t rule out some of the smaller lakes for the early season action.  On the bigger bodies of water, fish the numerous bays and you’ll find plenty of active fish.  As the water warms towards the end of May, the smallmouth bass bite starts to pick up as well.

Fishing Temagami Area in the Summer

Month Avg. Air Temps °F (Hi/Lo)
June 71° / 48°
July 76° / 53°
August 73° / 52°

In the early summer, there are still plenty of fish caught in the shallows, but then the better quality pike, walleye and smallmouth bass will settle into their mid-summer patterns.  Fish the offshore structures, deeper weed lines and drop-offs near rocks and you’ll find plenty of smallmouth bass, pike and walleye.

Fishing Temagami Area in the Fall

Month Avg. Air Temps °F (Hi/Lo)
September 62° / 44°
October 50° / 34°
November 35° / 22°

The fall brings good fishing on the area lakes.  It gets cold up here quick, so plan your trips accordingly.  The month of September provides very good fishing, but towards the end of the month, a cold front could make your trip a lot more uncomfortable.  The smaller lakes will turn over quicker while the bigger lakes will provide a good fall bite for a little bit longer before turning over.

Fishing Temagami Area in the Winter (Ice Fishing)

Month Avg. Air Temps °F (Hi/Lo)
December 22° / 3°
January 16° / -6°
February 20° / -4°

Many people will ice fish in the Temagami area.  Anglers have access to a lot of smaller lakes during the hard water season.  Some businesses are still operational through the winter as well to help people enjoy the fishing through the ice.
