The weightless rig isn’t a very popular rig for fishing with goby baits because gobies are usually found on or near the bottom.  You can fish this way though with these baits.  Just fish them like you would a jerkbait.  A quick jerk and pause retrieve will work for targeting smallmouth bass in the shallows.

The Texas rig can be an effective rig to fish for smallmouth bass with soft plastic gobies.  Some goby baits have a very skinny body, so this rig may not work with every goby bait that is on the market. The goby baits that are thick enough will work well on this rig.  Fish your baits on the bottom with the Texas rig and you should have plenty of success.

The Florida rig won’t work well with all soft plastic gobies because many goby baits have a very small head and skinny body.  If your goby bait has a thick enough head and body to use the Florida rig, then this is a rig that can help you put more fish in the boat.  Work your goby bait along the bottom and you can expect to catch plenty of smallmouth bass.

The split shot rig is a great way to add a little bit of weight to your bait.  This will get your bait to fall a little bit faster, but the worm will still have some pretty good action.  A heavier split shot weight will take away from the natural action of these worms, so make sure to go light with the split shot weight.  This rig works very well for largemouth & smallmouth bass.

Some straight worms have some good action on a scrounger jighead.  A slow and steady retrieve will help give this worm some action and you should be able to get some bites from largemouth bass, smallmouth bass and even northern pike.

Some straight worms look very good on a shaky head jig while others don’t have very good action. With the right worm, you can catch plenty of bass on a shaky head jig.  Work it along the bottom in shallow water around all types of cover or fish it deep and you should have some success with this rig.

The swimbait hook allows you to work a straight worm similarly to how you would work a jerkbait. A jerk and pause retrieve works well and you may get more strikes if your baits match the same colors as some common bait fish.  Even though you are using a worm, the action is going to be more like a wounded bait fish.  You should be able to catch plenty of largemouth bass and smallmouth bass, but don’t be surprised if you catch an occasional walleye and northern pike.

Some straight worms look pretty good on a regular jighead.  The longer shank jigheads will help you hook more of the fish that bite than the smaller shank jigheads.  Just work these baits along the bottom with a list and pause retrieve and you should be able to catch some largemouth and smallmouth bass.

Straight worms on a jighead hooked wacky style can be very effective for catching largemouth bass and smallmouth bass.  This isn’t a very popular way to fish with straight worms for most anglers, but the action is pretty good and it’s a good way to fish these worms on the bottom in deeper water.

The Texas rig is not one of the most popular ways to rig this worm.  You can fish with this rig, but the action is not nearly as good as it is wacky style on a weightless rig or drop shot rig.
