Orange Beach & Gulf Shores, AL


The Gulf Shores & Orange Beach area is very good for fishing offshore. There are plenty of fishing charters that operate out of this area and you will find plenty of offshore structures here that will hold many different species of fish. The target species will vary depending on the seasons, but some of the popular fish that are caught offshore are grouper, snapper, cobia, amberjack, king mackerel, barracuda, sharks and others.


Alaska


Kenai Peninsula


The Cook Inlet & Resurrection Bay offer some excellent fishing for salmon, halibut and cod.  When visiting the Kenai Peninsula, you will have access to these waters from the following towns:

Homer | Hope | Kenai | Ninilchik | Seward


Prince William Sound


Prince William Sound is a sound off the Gulf of Alaska on the south coast of Alaska.  It is located on the eastern side of the Kenai Peninsula.  Most of the land surrounding Prince William Sound is part of the Chugach National Forest, the second largest national forest in the U.S.  This area provides some spectacular scenery as it is ringed by the steep and glaciated Chugach Mountains.

Whitter, Cordova and Valdez are popular fishing vacation destinations where anglers target five species of Pacific salmon, rainbow trout, halibut, rockfish, lingcod, cutthroat trout and Dolly Varden.


Southeast Alaska


Shaped by the staggering force of massive glaciers millions of years ago, Alaska’s Inside Passage is home to a variety of wildlife, tremendous scenery and some outstanding fishing.

Southeast Alaska, also known as the inside passage, is known for having some tremendous fishing opportunities.  In this area, you will be primarily fishing out of the saltwater ports of Ketchikan, Petersburg, Wrangell, Sitka, Juneau, Haines and Skagway.  You can expect to catch a variety of fish here such as salmon, halibut, lingcod and rockfish.

Fish the open water with charters for 5 species of Pacific salmon, rockfish, sea bass and halibut.  You can fish the open waters in all 7 locations in southeast Alaska.


Southwest Alaska


Southwest Alaska is home to a few destinations that we cover in our featured fishing destinations.  Dillingham, Unalaska / Port of Dutch Harbor and Kodiak Island make up this region.  Visitors come to see wildlife such as bears, the active volcanoes and so much more.  Fish the open water with charters for 5 species of Pacific salmon, rockfish, sea bass and halibut.  You can fish the open waters in all 3 locations in southwest Alaska.

Florida


Amelia Island, FL


Amelia Island is known more for its inshore fishing, but there is some excellent offshore fishing in the offshore waters near Amelia Island. There are some deep sea fishing charters that operate in this area that should be available to take you out on a fishing trip. The target species will vary depending on the seasons, but some of the fish that are targeted here offshore are grouper, snapper, cobia, king mackerel, amberjack, barracuda, sharks, mahi mahi, tuna, billfish, wahoo and others.


Apalachicola, FL


There is some excellent fishing in the offshore waters of Apalachicola. Local anglers and fishing charters fish offshore for a variety of fish and the target species of fish will vary depending on the season. The popular fish that are targeted here are grouper, snapper, cobia, king mackerel, amberjack, wahoo, barracuda and mahi mahi.


Boca Raton, FL


Boca Raton is on our site because of its excellent offshore fishing. You have easy access out to the Atlantic Ocean from the inlet. Anglers target a variety of different fish in the offshore waters here. There are reefs in the deep water offshore and anglers target many different species of fish such as grouper, snapper, cobia, king mackerel, amberjack, goliath grouper and others. The open waters will also hold plenty of other fish such as wahoo, sailfish, tuna and a variety of others.


Cape San Blas / Port St. Joe, FL


Anglers do fish offshore in the Cape San Blas area, however, the inshore fishing definitely is more popular here. The target species will vary depending on the seasons, but this area will provide plenty of action if you get out onto the offshore structures. Nearby, Mexico Beach is home to a great artificial reef program, which means anglers have so many pieces of structure to fish for a variety of different species of fish. If you are looking to do some offshore fishing here you may want to hire a fishing charter, however, if you are going out in your own boat, take a look at our Mexico Beach fishing maps page for additional links to maps with GPS points of the reefs. This will help you find some of the better fishing spots offshore in this area.

Some of the popular fish to target here are grouper, snapper, cobia, king mackerel, amberjack, barracuda and sharks. These are just some of the fish you may catch here offshore.


Cedar Key, FL


The Cedar Key Fishing Pier gives anglers an opportunity to do some pier fishing in the Cedar Key area. Anglers usually target redfish, sea trout and many other species of fish can be caught from the pier. This isn’t a beach destination so you won’t be able to roam the beaches here and fish the miles of the surf like other destinations in Florida. However, the pier may be all you need if you are just looking to do some shore fishing while on a trip here.


Charlotte Harbor, FL


Charlotte Harbor has some excellent fishing in the offshore waters here. The target species will vary depending on the seasons, but this area will provide plenty of action year-round. There are several fishing charters in this area that target a variety of fish such as grouper, snapper, cobia, king mackerel, permit, amberjack, barracuda, tuna, mahi mahi, wahoo, goliath grouper and others.


Crystal River, FL


The Crystal River area offers some very good offshore fishing, however, it’s a decent boat ride to get out of the river and out to the better fishing spots in the Gulf of Mexico. The target species will vary depending on the seasons, but this area will provide plenty of action year-round. Some of the fish you can catch here offshore are grouper, snapper, cobia, king mackerel, permit, amberjack, sharks and others.


Daytona Beach, FL


The Daytona Beach area is home to some excellent offshore fishing. There are many boats that head out of New Smyrna Beach (just south of Daytona Beach) to fish for many different fish offshore. If you are looking for a deep sea fishing charter, you will have plenty of options in this area. The target species will vary depending on the seasons, but some of the fish that are targeted here offshore are grouper, snapper, cobia, king mackerel, amberjack, barracuda, sharks, mahi mahi, tuna, billfish, wahoo and others.


Destin, FL


The Emerald Coast area is known for its outstanding offshore fishing.  There are a fleet of fishing charters that call Destin home, so you should be able to find a fishing charter that can put you on some fish.  Anglers will fish the offshore structures that will hold many different species of fish.  The target species will vary depending on the seasons, but some of the popular fish that are caught offshore are grouper, snapper, cobia, amberjack, king mackerel, barracuda, sharks and others.


Everglades City, FL


You aren’t going to find surf & pier fishing in the Everglades, City area and 10,000 Islands area. If you want to visit this area and still do some surf and pier fishing on your trip, you may want to check out Marco Island and Naples. There are some great options for fishing without a boat in these destinations.


Florida Keys


Big Pine Key


Big Pine Key and the Lower Keys have some very good fishing available offshore for a variety of different fish. This area of the Florida Keys doesn’t have a ton of offshore fishing charters available, so it may be easier to plan an offshore fishing trip in one of the other areas. If you do get to do some fishing offshore in this area, you may catch mahi mahi, wahoo, a variety of tuna, sailfish, marlin and many other species of fish.


Islamorada


Islamorada is home to some of the best deep sea fishing anywhere.  This area has so many deep sea fishing charters that you should have no problem finding someone capable of taking out on an awesome fishing trip.  You can fish for so many species of fish here. Anglers target sailfish, marlin, a variety of tuna, wahoo, mahi mahi, kingfish, tarpon, grouper, snapper and many other species of fish. Whether you are trolling the open water in the Gulf stream or fishing over the many reefs and wrecks, you will have plenty of options around Islamorada.


Key Largo


The deep sea fishing is awesome around the Key Largo area.  There are many fishing charters available and some of the popular fish that you can catch here are mahi mahi, sailfish, wahoo, several species of tuna, marlin, amberjack, kingfish, grouper, snapper, cobia, sharks and barracuda.  These are just some of the fish that you can target in the offshore waters around Key Largo.


Key West


Key West is home to some of the best deep sea fishing in the country. You can fish for so many species of fish here. Anglers target sailfish, marlin, a variety of tuna, wahoo, mahi mahi, kingfish, tarpon, grouper, snapper and many other species of fish. Whether you are trolling the open water in the Gulf stream or fishing over the many reefs and wrecks, you should be able to catch plenty of fish on a deep sea fishing trip around Key West.


Marathon


Marathon is a very popular fishing destination for anglers seeking to go offshore to target a variety of fish such as mahi mahi, wahoo, tuna, sailfish, marlin, sharks, grouper, snapper, kingfish, barracuda and a variety of other fish.  Whether you are trolling open water or fishing the many reefs and wrecks, you should be able to catch a bunch of fish on a fishing trip here.


Fort Lauderdale, FL


Fort Lauderdale is a great deep sea fishing destination. Anglers come here from all over the country to fish these offshore waters. There aren’t too many deep sea fishing charters that operate out of Jupiter, but that doesn’t mean that the fishing isn’t good. Marco Island, FL


Marco Island has plenty of structure to fish offshore and there are plenty of fishing charters that fish this area. The most popular species of fish that anglers will target here are grouper, snapper, cobia, king mackerel, permit, amberjack and goliath grouper. Mexico Beach, FL


Mexico Beach is home to a great artificial reef program, which means anglers have so many pieces of structure to fish here for a variety of different species of fish. This area isn’t a real popular tourist destination, but there are several fishing charters here that do go offshore, so you should be able to find a charter to take you out on a trip. Miami, FL


Deep Sea fishing is popular out of the Miami, Florida area. There are a number of fishing charters here and there is quick access to the Atlantic Ocean. The target species will vary depending on the seasons, but some of the fish that are targeted here offshore are grouper, snapper, cobia, king mackerel, amberjack, barracuda, sharks, mahi mahi, tuna, billfish, wahoo, sailfish and others.


Naples, FL


Deep Sea / Offshore Fishing is very popular in Naples, Florida. The target species will vary depending on the seasons, but this area will provide plenty of action year-round. Many of the fishing charters will target the hard, rocky bottom or wrecks to bottom fish for grouper, snapper, cobia, king mackerel, permit, amberjack and goliath grouper. Steinhatchee doesn’t have a ton of deep water close in, but there are enough structures to fish here offshore that anglers have a lot of success fishing for a variety of different fish. Stuart, FL


Most anglers have heard of Stuart, Florida for its excellent deep sea fishing. This is where most of the deep sea charters operate from in this area. The nearby St. Lucie Inlet gives them quick access to the Atlantic Ocean where you can target a variety of fish. Tampa Bay, FL Area


The fishing is very good offshore in the Tampa Bay area. This area is very popular and there are so many deep sea fishing charters here to take you out on a fishing trip. The target species will vary depending on the seasons, but this area will provide plenty of action for something year-round. The popular fish that are targeted here are grouper, snapper, cobia, king mackerel, permit, amberjack, mahi mahi, tuna, barracuda and goliath grouper, but there are so many other species of fish that you can catch.


Venice, FL


Venice, Florida is home to some excellent deep sea fishing. Golden Isles, GA

Hawaii


People travel to Hawaii from all over the world.  Hawaii is a great vacation destination.  On your next trip to Hawaii, make sure to plan some fishing time.  There are fishing charters available to help make your trip a memorable one.  Hawaii is known for its excellent deep sea fishing for billfish, tuna, mahi mahi, ono and several species of shark.  Because the ocean bottom drops off fast around the Hawaiian Islands, fishing charters don’t have to travel too far offshore to catch fish.

Maryland


Chesapeake Bay


Fish the bay area’s beaches, fishing piers and bridges for some awesome shore fishing opportunities. Striped bass are the most popular fish that are targeted here from the surf and the piers, however, you can also catch a variety of other fish such as bluefish, whiting, an occasional trout or even flounder. During the peak of the striped bass migration, the fishing can be awesome from the surf in this area.


Ocean City, MD


Ocean City, MD is known for its excellent offshore fishing and there are a lot of fishing charters here to take you out on the ocean.  You can catch a variety of fish whether you fish the reefs and wrecks or the open water.  There are many pelagic species that are catchable here depending on the time of year.  Anglers fish for mahi mahi, wahoo, tuna, marlin and more.


Massachusetts


Cape Cod


There are plenty of fish to target offshore in this area.  Whether you fish the reefs and wrecks or the open water, there are plenty of fish to target here.  Black sea bass, tautog, scup, pollock, cod, haddock, wolffish, halibut and sharks are some of the types of fish that you may find around the reefs or wrecks.  Some of the fish that roam the open waters in this region are tuna, mackerel, bonito and false albacore.  The offshore fishing usually gets overshadowed here by the excellent fishing for striped bass inshore, however, there is some good offshore fishing here too.


Gloucester, MA


The Gloucester area gives anglers quick access to some good inshore fishing spots and some offshore spots too.  There are plenty of fish to target offshore in this area.  Whether you fish the reefs and wrecks or the open water, there are plenty of fish to target here.  Black sea bass, tautog, scup, pollock, cod, haddock, wolffish, halibut and sharks are some of the types of fish that you may find around the reefs or wrecks.  Some of the fish that roam the open waters in this region are tuna, mackerel, bonito and false albacore.


Martha’s Vineyard, MA


Martha’s Vineyard is in an excellent location if you want to go out and fish the offshore waters in this area.  With quick access to the ocean, it’s not as far of a boat ride as if you were coming from the mainland.  Whether you fish the reefs and wrecks or the open water, there are plenty of fish to target here.  Black sea bass, tautog, scup, pollock, cod, haddock, wolffish, halibut and sharks are some of the types of fish that you may find around the reefs or wrecks.  Some of the fish that roam the open waters in this region are tuna, mackerel, bonito and false albacore.


Nantucket, MA


There are plenty of fish to target offshore in this area.  Whether you fish the reefs and wrecks or the open water, there are plenty of fish to target here.  Black sea bass, tautog, scup, pollock, cod, haddock, wolffish, halibut and sharks are some of the types of fish that you may find around the reefs or wrecks.  Some of the fish that roam the open waters in this region are tuna, mackerel, bonito and false albacore.  Because of Nantucket’s location, you have a shorter boat ride out to some of the more popular offshore locations.

Biloxi, MS


Biloxi holds its own when it comes to offshore fishing. There are plenty of charters available here to go along with several different types of fish to catch. You will find plenty of offshore structures here that will hold many different species of fish. New Jersey


Atlantic City, NJ


Atlantic City gives you quick access to the ocean, which allows you to get to your offshore spots quicker.  You will find plenty of fishing charters here and there are a variety of trips offered.  Whether you fish the reefs and wrecks or the open water, there are plenty of fish to target here.  Anglers catch tuna, shark, bonito, false albacore, mahi mahi, marlin, sea bass, tautog, king mackerel and wahoo.


Ocean City, NJ

Montauk, NY

North Carolina


Brunswick Islands, NC


The Brunswick Islands area is home to some very good deep sea fishing. You can find many fishing charters who will take you out to deeper water. Whether you search the reefs and wrecks for bottom fish or troll for the pelagic species of fish that are moving through the area, you have some options on a deep sea fishing trip. Some of the common species of fish that are caught are sailfish, marlin, tuna, mahi mahi, wahoo, grouper and amberjack.


Crystal Coast, NC


This area is known for some very good offshore fishing for a variety of different species of fish. There are several fishing charters here that operate in the deeper offshore waters and some of the common species of fish that are caught are sailfish, marlin, tuna, mahi mahi, wahoo, grouper and amberjack.


Outer Banks, NC


The deep sea and offshore waters can be very good for a variety of fish. There are many fishing charters here as well who can take you offshore. Some of the popular fish to catch are mahi mahi, wahoo, tuna, marlin, sailfish, king mackerel, amberjack, bonito, false albacore, barracuda, sharks, snapper, grouper, black sea bass and more.


Wilmington, NC


This area is known for some very good offshore fishing for a variety of different species of fish. Whether you go out in your own boat or hire a fishing charter, you can expect to find several different species of fish in the offshore waters around Wrightsville Beach, Carolina Beach and Kure Beach. Some of the common species of fish that are caught are sailfish, marlin, tuna, mahi mahi, wahoo, grouper and amberjack.


South Carolina


Beaufort, SC


You will have a little farther boat ride here if you plan on going out to fish the offshore waters near Beaufort. Some people will just head over to Hilton Head Island to find an offshore charter. The fishing will be the same as the Hilton Head Island area. Anglers have access to some good offshore fishing here too.  With the jetties here, a lot of anglers choose to stay closer and fish the jetties, but you can go offshore for some very good fishing too.  The target species will vary depending on the seasons.  Fishing charters will target grouper, snapper, cobia, king mackerel, permit, amberjack, barracuda, bonito, sharks and more.


Georgetown, SC


You have quick access to some excellent offshore fishing in the Georgetown area. You have much smaller crowds here than farther north in Myrtle Beach, but there are still plenty of fishing charters here to service you for an offshore trip.

The target species will vary depending on the seasons, however, plan on fishing the hard, rocky bottom or wrecks for bottom fish such as grouper, snapper, cobia, king mackerel, permit, amberjack and more. Some other fish that are targeted offshore are barracuda, bonito, sharks and others. Offshore trolling is also done in this area, especially for king mackerel.


Hilton Head Island, SC


You have some deep sea fishing options here also. There are so many charters that operate out of the Hilton Head Island area and several of them will go offshore. Myrtle Beach, SC

Corpus Christi, TX


You have to make a good run to get out to the deep sea fishing spots. Port Aransas is where many people will go if they’re looking to do some deep sea fishing in this area. If you’re launching out of Corpus Christi, it’s going to take you a lot longer to get to the offshore fishing spots that most people target in this area. Galveston, TX


The Galveston area is great with the inshore fishing opportunities and some very good offshore fishing too depending on the season. Depending on where you launch your boat, it can be a short boat ride or a long boat ride to get into the Gulf. There are plenty of offshore charters here who fish for a variety of fish. Some of the popular fish that are caught offshore here are grouper, snapper, cobia, amberjack, king mackerel, barracuda, sharks, tuna, sailfish, marlin and others too.


Matagorda Bay, TX


Matagorda Bay gives you direct access to the Gulf. Depending on where you are launching your boat, it may be a short ride or a long ride out to the Gulf since the bay is pretty big. There are plenty of charters here that go offshore for a variety of fish depending on the season. Some of the fish you may catch are grouper, snapper, cobia, amberjack, king mackerel, barracuda, sharks, tuna, sailfish, marlin and others.


Port Arthur, TX


Port Arthur is known for its inshore fishing, however, you can be into some very good offshore fishing depending on the season. Anglers will fish the offshore structures that will hold many different species of fish. There are several charters here also who focus on the offshore waters of the Gulf.  Some of the popular fish that are caught offshore are grouper, snapper, cobia, amberjack, king mackerel, barracuda, sharks, tuna, sailfish, marlin & others.


Seadrift, TX


With no direct access to the Gulf from Seadrift, you could take a boat ride to get out to the gulf, but most anglers would just launch closer to the direct access points nearby which are Port Aransas and Port O’Connor. Once you are in the Gulf, anglers target a variety of fish such as grouper, snapper, cobia, king mackerel, permit, amberjack and goliath grouper. These are just some of the fish that can be caught offshore. The time of year will dictate what is found in this area in the offshore waters.


South Padre Island, TX


Anglers will fish the offshore structures that will hold many different species of fish. The target species will vary depending on the seasons, but some of the popular fish that are caught offshore are grouper, snapper, cobia, amberjack, king mackerel, barracuda, sharks, tuna, sailfish, marlin and others.

Virginia Beach


You will find the species of fish that are known to be found on the northern Atlantic coast as well as some of the species of fish that are known for being along the Atlantic coast on the southern states and through Florida.  This gives anglers so many options to target so many different types of fish offshore.  Some of the popular fish that anglers target are marlin, tuna, sailfish, wahoo, snapper, grouper and sharks, but there are so many other fish that you can also catch here.
